Chapter 1 The Muscle Barbie

"Mr. Spencer, the person you are looking for is here." Noah Lawrence tapped twice on the study door and reported in a soft voice to the man who was reviewing the documents in the room.

Karen Wood, standing behind Noah, took the chance to tilt her head to glance at the man sitting in the center of the study. She happened to see him pause his fingers in the air for a second, lift his left arm to hold his delicate chin, and then fix his eyes on her.

The man's somber eyes made Karen shudder all over.

The man's features were incredibly handsome, but there was an overwhelming layer of gloom between his brows, making him surrounded by a cold, frightening hostility. Involuntarily, Karen furrowed her pretty eyebrows. At this moment, Noah called out to her, "Miss Wood."

Karen instantly took two steps forward to stand naturally and gracefully in front of the man, curling up her lips into a sweet, faint smile.

All of a sudden, the dim study lightened up slightly due to Karen's smile. Jayden Spencer glanced at the petite woman standing before him, frowning. Then, he narrowed his eyes at Noah and asked, "So, this is the assistant you got for Lorna?"

At the mellow, magnetic voice, Karen looked up quietly, her ears turning red.

As her watery, crystal-clear eyes looked right into Jayden's dark ones, the man was startled for a moment. Instantly, a layer of gloom covered his brilliant face. "Noah."

Jayden leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms with a sneer. "I thought you know what kind of person Lorna is need of. Do I have to repeat myself?"

Instantly, Noah got scared out of cold sweat. Just as he wanted to explain, a sweet female voice sounded, "Miss Lorna needs an assistant who can also serve as a bodyguard, and that's exactly why I'm here."

Karen stared at Jayden with an innocent look in her eyes.

Noah stiffened all over, tamping down the urge to rush over to Karen to cover her little mouth with his hands.

Did this silly girl even know who was sitting in front of her?

How dare she interrupt Mr. Spencer's questioning without permission? Did she want to be thrown out of the house by Mr. Spencer?

Jayden raised his inky brows and looked at the young woman before him with a somewhat surprised look in his eyes.

Karen looked around eighteen years old. Her eyes were watery, her figure slender, her short hair beamingly dark, and her face apple-like. She was in an azure dress, giving off a childish and silly vibe.

Jayden then said tersely while lowering his eyes. "Get out."

Noah hurried to nod his head, daring not say anything else. He broke out in a cold sweat and stepped forward to take Karen out of the study. "Miss Wood, we may leave now."

"Why?" Karen blinked without the least fear of Jayden's coldness and harshness. "You're hiring an assistant for Miss Lorna's security. I thought we've agreed that we would sign a contract after your taking me to meet the boss."

"You? Protect Lorna?" Jayden sensed the confidence from Karen's tone of voice and lifted his head to look at her again. "What have you got to protect her?"

Lorna Spencer was Jayden's sister, the young lady of the Spencer Consortium. She was extremely sensitive and particularly prone to getting obsessive as she was born prematurely and used to get hospitalized frequently when she was a child.

When Lorna grew up, she wanted to develop a career in the showbiz. Her parents had been making a pet of her and never refused any of her requests. However, they were worried that she might get upset by some unkindness. Also, they did not want to annoy her by assigning her a group of bodyguards. As a compromise, they decided to find her a female assistant who could take good care of her and protect her from any possible danger.

Jayden had entrusted Noah to deal with the task. What had the latter brought back then?

A petite, fragile Barbie doll?

Jayden repeated his own words with a trace of standoffishness in his voice. "Get out."

Seeing that Jayde was going to get furious, Noah dared not blather about hundreds of excuses he had prepared for himself at all.

After letting out a sigh, Noah once again turned to grab Karen. Unexpectedly, Karen broke free from him like a slippery fish, took a few steps forward to stand before Jayden, and revealed an enlightened expression. "I know what Mr. Spencer is suspecting of. You're afraid that not only I will not be able to serve as a bodyguard, but I'll bring Miss Lorna more trouble."

She then lifted the sleeve to expose her slender right arm, saying, "Don't be fooled by my appearance. In fact, it's just a piece of cake for me to knock over two or three grown men. Let me show you."

With that, a loud bang sounded in Jayden's study. For a moment, it seemed that the entire room was shaking. Noah widened his eyes open in shock upon seeing Karen, a delicate woman, pounded his boss's desk made of ancient sandalwood. As a crack slowly appeared upon it, Jayden's expression grew darker and darker.

After a short while, Jayden opened his thin lips coldly and spat out two words at Noah and Karen. "Get lost."

Chapter 2 Call Noah Back

Noah was so scared that he could burst out crying at any time.

He rushed over to yank Karen's arm, intending to drag her out of the study.

"Miss Wood, you'd better get out of here before Mr. Spencer gets mad."

Noah thought to himself, "If Mr. Spencer starts to make things difficult for you, you'll find it too late to regret, woman."

The anxiety inside was almost blinding Noah as he thought his career had come to an end.

Was he obsessed with ghosts or what? How could he have chosen Karen?

In fact, it was not that he had been blinded by anything. Though Karen looked like an underage girl, she was actually quite suitable for Miss Lorna in all aspects. Noah had not expected that Mr. Spencer was unwilling to spare an extra glance at Karen before vetoing her.

"Wait a minute." Karen was still wearing a smile on her face. Although Jayden had kicked her out, she said to Noah in a lower voice, "Mr. Spencer will call me back."

Noah shook his head and instructed the servants around to send the woman out with an eye signal.

The woman had some sort of misunderstanding about Mr. Spencer, did not she?

Jayden Spencer was known as the Asura of the Spencer Family. Did Karen think the nickname meant nothing?

As she had been drummed out by Mr. Spencer, it would be impossible for her to step into any corporation owned by the Spencer Family.

As Noah was lost in thoughts, a cell phone beeped in the study.

Noah paused for a second and turned his head intuitively. At the same time, a trace of brilliance flashed across Karen's eyes. Jayden answered the phone, saying, "Hi, Lorna."

Though the man's cold voice had become softer, his eyes and brows were still covered by a layer of gloom.

While Jayden glanced at the crack upon the desk, Karen's innocent face flashed before his eyes.

A stupid woman...

He snorted inwardly, thinking that it was time for him to fire Noah as the latter had not grown up in the least in terms of his abilities.

"Jayden." Lorna's voice sounded from the other end of the line.

"I'm listening." Jayden loosened his tie and leaned against the back of the chair with a dark look in his eyes.

"Has Noah brought that girl to you?" There was a rare hint of excitement in Lorna's voice.

With his inky brows furrowed, Jayden asked, "That juvenile?"

"So, you've seen her?" Lorna continued with a smile, "Isn't she adorable?"

Jayden replied with a sneer, "Lorna, what you need is an assistant who can protect you but not a Barbie doll like those in your room."

"Noah didn't introduce her to you, did he?" Lorna's tone was tinged with a hint of displeasure. "You should have her resume on hand. Jayden, I like her and want her to be my assistant."

Jayden tilted his head to look at the stack of documents on a corner of the desk. Those were resumes of candidates for Lorna's assistant. They had stayed on the desk for almost half a month, and Jayden had not bothered to spare a glance at them.

He moved the documents closer to himself and then lowered his eyes to find that the resume on the top of them was that of the girl he had just met.

Her name was Karen Wood.

A hint of surprise appeared in Jayden's eyes as he glanced at Karen's resume.

That young woman looked like a Barbie doll, and she simply seemed to be a teenager in the photo attached to her curriculum vitae. How come she was already twenty-two?

Besides, she was at level seven of Sanda, had a Five-Star Chef Certificate, excelled in English, Japanese, and Korean, and was a psychologist...

A psychologist?

This very detail made Jayden's eyes flicker with brilliance. He hung up immediately and ordered the servant outside to call Noah over.

At this moment, Noah was standing at the corner of the stairs motionlessly. Upon hearing Jayden's words, he shivered all over and then hurried to run back to the study. "Yes? Mr. Spencer."

"Where is she?" Jayden glanced at Noah.

"Who?" Noah was still in shock and, for a moment, did not realize who Jayden was referring to.

Jayden's voice grew even colder. "Karen Wood."

"Me?" Karen popped her tiny head out of the door frame and stared at the man with a smile.

The look in Jayden's eyes darkened. As he was about to say something, his cell phone rang again.

He tilted his head to check the caller ID and instantly stood up with the phone clenched in hand. The young master of the Spencer Family had maintained expressionless and emotionless all the time. However, at this moment, Noah and Karen saw clearly that there was a flash of fire surging up in his eyes.

Instead of picking up the phone, he strode out of the room. While passing by Karen, he hurriedly said to Noah, "Take her to the old mansion to see Lorna."

Chapter 3 Did He Recognize You

At the Hope Orphanage...

Jayden was sitting in the director's office and staring at the stack of photos in hand. Though his lowered eyelashes had hid the coldness in his eyes, his presence had still brought the entire room to the freezing point.

"Mr. Spencer." The man standing next to the director was the private detective hired by Jayden, who was observing Jayden's expression cautiously. "We've found these. Is she the person you're searching for?"

There was a little girl in the picture.

The little girl's clothes were tattered, and they were so dirty that there was barely any color visible. And she looked about six years old.

The photo was a screenshot from a video. Though it was a little blurry as it was taken years ago, Jayden was confident that the girl in a ponytail, whose eyes were shining and smile was bright, was the person he had been looking for fifteen years.

With his grip on the photos tightened slightly, Jayden lifted his head to look at the detective. "Can you confirm her identity?"

The private detective shook his head. "That's difficult."

Tamping down the unease inside, he continued, "We've searched all the orphanages in White City over the years but haven't found half a clue about that girl. You only remember her appearance at an early age but not her name or where she once lived. We've got the pictures in your hand only because we happened to recall that there was a shopping mall near the Hope Orphanage, which had been running for over twenty years. It was an utter surprise that they have the surveillance backups of years ago, and it was our luck actually to notice and obtain the images."

The detective paused for a second, and his voice was then tinged with a trace of regret, "It's been so many years. If we could find the girl, we should have obtained some clues already. What do you think if..."

Jayden's expression grew colder as he gave the detective a sidelong glance. "Keep looking."

He took one of the photos, inserted the rest of them back into the file bag, signed a piece of check, and tossed it on the desk. "Contact me when you get any other information."

With that, he stood up and walked out the room with a grim expression.

"Mr. Spencer," The Director followed after the man. Upon sensing Jayden's gloom, he let out a sigh.

Jayden stopped, put the photo in his hand into his pocket, and turned to stare at the director expressionlessly.

The director said in a helpless tone of voice, "It's been too long. It's no exaggeration to say that these pictures are a miracle. Don't get your hopes up even if you refuse to give it up."

Jayden had been looking for someone.

As Lorna had been weak and ill and almost passed away several times, her parents had been doing charity work since their daughter was very young with the aim to accumulate good deeds for her.

The Hope Orphanage was founded by the Spencer Family at that time.

As Jayden and Lorna's parents used to be incredibly busy, they actually left Jayden once at the orphanage. It was on that day that Jayden met a little girl at the entrance of the Hope Orphanage, which opened up a fifteen-year long search.

The director sighed inwardly.

Fifteen years ago, monitoring equipment was not popular. All Jayden could remember was that little girl's outfit and features. As the available information was so little that even the Spencer Family had a dominant power in White City and had searched all the orphanages in town and even those homeless children on the street over the past fifteen years, what they got was only a few photos.

The director had always thought that the girl Jayden was looking for might no longer be alive.

Jayden gradually clenched his fingers into fists, nodded at the old man before him while tamping down the hostility surging up in his heart, and then turned to stride away.

At the same time, in a bedroom on the second floor of the Spencer Family's old mansion, Lorna hurried to lock the door and then threw herself at Karen, asking in an excited tone of voice, "Honey, did my brother recognize you?"
